To do so I create a new VM, installed with Server 2012 R2, and did a bunch of changes of domain membership, servername, and IP addresses, in order to replace the old 2008R2 box with the new 2012R2 box. On behalf of a client, I updated their SCCM infrastructure which was composed of a standalone Microsoft 2008 R2 Server with SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 installed, with SQL Server 2012 SP1.
